War Devastates us

War devastates us; it tears our world and our existence apart. It hits us in the core and changes our perspective of life. War is cruel no matter how we look at it. It brings along so much death, injury, displacement and destruction.

Sadly, the Middle East has witnessed many wars, and the ongoing war in Syria is one of many that has badly hit our region and its people. As in all wars, most help extended to the victims is in the form of relief work to meet the urgent needs of people hardly hit in the conflict. While this form of aid is certainly needed to sustain the minimal yet basic needs of daily life of people inside the war-torn country and outside, however, this does not allow them to cope with issues like death, destruction and displacement. ART does.

Because ART Does

And because ART does, the Arab Theatre Training Centre (ATTC), along with a number of dedicated partners and associates in the region, saw that a new line of support is needed to enforce resilience, persistence and courage of the Syrian people and give them hope of a better tomorrow.

Through ‘Home Arts, Homecoming’, ATTC and its partners introduced culture and art as a basis and a springboard that will prepare the Syrian society for the future in Syria and help those outside in their host countries to become active players in their new surroundings until their imminent return home.

The project embraces the few remaining Syrian artists and cultural operators in the region to help sustain their work and support them to provide means for building resilience amongst youth and women in the neighbouring countries of the Syrian Diaspora; Jordan and Lebanon in particular, through different forms of art.
